Message From the Pastor

Sometimes it is okay just to be. The lazy, hazy days of summer provide us with an opportunity to take it easy, bask in the rays of the sun, and take a break from the hectic pace of always being on the go. We at St. Mary’s church have experienced a full and exciting spring with much that we have to celebrate and be thankful for. There are many to whom we owe a debt a gratitude as we complete this program year. And as we anticipate the busyness of the year before us, we realize that there are always new challenges and new opportunities to care and to serve and to grow in our common life together. But now for a few weeks, we can bask in the glow of the summer sunshine and feel good about our accomplishments and our outlook for the future. We can enjoy our week of Vacation Bible School and our combined Summer Sunday School classes and our continuing opportunities to worship and praise God for all the blessings that we share as the people of St. Mary’s United Church of Christ.

What is important for us to remember during these weeks of summer is that part of being is being together. We may not have a large calendar of summer programs but our needs to care for and care about each other continue throughout the year. We also need to be reminded that God in our lives and our life in God is still the bedrock on which our relationships are grounded. I urge us all to take every opportunity to be together throughout the summer months whenever possible especially during our Sunday worship services. These are our times to support and encourage one another and continue to be fed and rejuvenated by God’s Spirit as we prepare for busier times ahead. Let’s each of us ask the question this summer, not what will I get out of being at church but rather what can I give by being there. May God bless us all in these months ahead.

Grace and peace,  Dick

BELL CHOIR DIRECTOR SOUGHT

After many successful years as the director of St. Mary’s bell choir, Bonnie Eyler has moved on to other things. The members of the bell choir hope there is someone interested in assuming the job and responsibilities of directing them. The Church and Ministry Committee is looking for a qualified person to assume this job in September. Duties include selecting music, holding rehearsals, caring for the bell equipment, and leading the bell choir for Sunday worship performances. If you are interested or know someone who is interested please contact the Church and Ministry Committee or the church office.

ICE CREAM STAND RESULTS

Thanks to all who helped with our Ice Cream Stand at the Fiddlers Convention on Sunday, June 12th, at the Farm Museum. Through the efforts of many hands working together we were able to realize gross receipts of over $1000. Consistory has voted to allocate the proceeds from our sale to our church’s Program Staff Fund. Thanks again to all who participated.

SILENT AUCTION

The High School Class will be having a silent auction to benefit Hoffman Homes for Youth Therapeutic Riding Program. Items will be on display in the vestry along with bid sheets. We have received generous donations from many local companies including Boyd’s Bears, Magic Elm Skateland, Walmart, Silver Run Station and our own shawl ministry. The winning bids will be announced on July 17 at table fellowship. The table fellowship donations on July 17 will be donated to the HHY fundraiser. Good luck and thank you for your support. See Brian or Lisa if you have any questions.
